Advantages - you can download movies on itunes and view them on your HD TV, view your photos/videos streamed from mac/ipod/iphone itunes, aswell as music. If streaming from your phone/ipod it acts as a control.
Disadvantages - the price of apple tv... is the only problem really I suppose.
