Does updating to Mac OS X Lion wipe your computer?

Postby maxfield » Wed Dec 21, 2011 9:43 pm

When updating my iMac (Late 2009) to Mac OS X Lion, I know it's always good to have a backup of all my stuff, but is that required? Will the update wipe my computer's settings and files and require a restore form a previous backup, or will it just update (like an iOS device) and keep all my stuff right where I left it?

it is always good to have a backup but Lion will be an "install-in-place" upgrade that will leave your files and settings intact as if nothing has changed.

No but back up important files anyways. OS X is known to not wipe your memory when you update. But in case you didn't know, Lion comes out July 20, probably around 8:30AM!
