Gimp Lagging when i use the tools, brush,clone, smug and and and?

Well i just bought me IMAC a couple days ago.
I use to have a Lap Top " TOSHIBA " and gimp was working really good on it NO LAGGING nothing just when i used The biggest brush and i moved really really fast then it would Lag a bite.
NOW on my IMAC 2011 Snow leopard Gimp LAGS bad...
What could i do need help really bad.. I downloaded the PHOTOSHOP trail too and it Lags on that one too help please... THX

GO back to PC. Seriously though, I use both PC's and macs. Check how much memory you have on the Imac. If you don't have 4 gb or more you're going to drag. It also depends what processor is in the Imac - earlier models only had a Core 2 Duo at 2 - 2.5 ghz which aint much for speed. Your Toshiba may have had much more for half the price. But it didn't have the cute apple logo on it. Complex artwork requires some powerful computers to render in real time.
