in upper right part of the desktop you will find a magnifying lens icon
click on it then type the name of the file you're looking for

Open up the Finder on your dock if it isn't already open and in the search box search for your document.

For a window similar to "My Documents" on windows computers, open Finder and click the name of the current user.
