How Much Would a Top of the Line iMac G4 Flat Panel Cost?

I recently got an old G5 for $70 and I like it. However, at my school, most of the iMacs are the G4's with the attached monitor and there is something about those that I really like. Perhaps it makes no sense to try to sell my G5 to get a G4 but if I ever get bored, who knows? So, how much would one of the top G4's, with the 20 inch screen, fastest processor, maxed out memory, cost?

Silver, they did come in a 20" size on the last line of iMac G4s.

If you're paying more than $150 for a completely maxed iMac G4 then you're paying too much, and even that is a stretch.

The iMac G4's were the most beautiful iMac ever made (with the exception of my green iMac G3).

However, they are now considered "vintage" (as in unsupported by current software) and should really be used as nostalgic windows into older, now incompatible, software libraries.

I did a quick check on eBay and you can get an admittedly not top-of-the-range, but as close as could be configured, 20" iMac G4 for £120, which is about $170.

If you do decide on buying one (and why not, they're beautiful) and upgrading it, please do not try installing Leopard on it. Put Tiger on at the most. Leopard is a resource hog and will render the poor machine slower than treacle on a cold day.

Best of luck with your purchase!

iMac G4 came with either 15" or 17" screen, no 20". Prices for the 17" are US$200-400 depending on processor speed (800 MHz / 1.0 GHz / 1.25 GHz) and components (amount of RAM, size of HDD).
