IMac or Custom Gaming PC?

IMac or Custom Gaming PC?

Postby lawly13 » Fri Dec 23, 2011 4:40 am

I want to buy a new computer and need some input. Should I buy the newest iMac or build my own pc? I want a decent amount of gaming capabilities. I've always wanted a Mac. I love the design and ease of use. Everything about them seems great. So what is the better deal: getting the 27 inch iMac or building a pc for the same price? (around $2000)
One more thing: is it possible to make the pc into a Mac? Like the Mac OS and things like that. Also, would it be easy to replace pieces in a Mac to make it better for gaming or would that not work?
I know I'm asking a lot but any input helps

Macs are great for video and graphics editing but are much weaker for gaming than a PC. You can get a GREAT barebones kit, i'm talking everything with a huge 1.5 TB hd, 40 GB solid state boot drive, 8 gigs of ram, unlocked i7 liquid cooled processor and a GTX 560TI vid card for $1,400 and have $600 to spare on other stuff.

Good lord, for $2,000 you could build a monster gaming machine..... Core-i7 2600k CPU $320, a pair of AMD Radeon 6950's in Crossfire for $500, ASRock Z68 PRO GEN3 for $255, 4 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB HDD's in RAID10 for $160,
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 $75.00, Crucial M4 64GB SATA III SSD $107, SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified $160, COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced Black Steel ATX Full Tower $160, ASUS Black 18.5" 5ms LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor $99.00

$1667.00

Build your own PC. Not a freakin' doubt. Macs normally cost about 50% more than a brand name PC with the same hardware, not to mention a PC you build on your own. Not only that, even if you got a high-end Mac for free, the Mac OS can't play nearly any games you can play on Windows. You can probably find a program to make your Windows look like the Mac OS, though.

Build your own PC because:
*PC's game better because of graphics
*More customizable
*Costs less
*More function
*Can run Most Mac Products, does not work Vice Versa

You can not make a PC into a Mac because of different data link libraries. For example, there is not hal.dll in Mac, therefore it would be impossible. You can do it with Linux/Unix Though, just switch the hard drives.

It would be easy to install game chips into the Mac, but at a costly price. The chips cost about $70-100. Not really worth it.

Oh, and good luck!

If your into gaming then a Windoze PC is better generally, but if you can afford a big iMac then it is way cooler, and more people will like you. Then just dual boot it with windows for the games, best of all worlds, some Universities do this, not for gaming tho.
You can use Hacintosh for PC which gets over the EFi boot problems etc. but you have to make sure you have hardware that drivers have been created for real Mac's. This list is quite a lot bigger than people think but still is somewhat limiting, not worth it unless your a geek or a nerd, and then people won't like you again, hehe.
