i really need a keyboard that plugs into my imac and can play piano, strings, and drums for me. (plus whatever other sound effects, but those are most important.) i want a fair amount of keys, but it doesn't have to be all 88. just not like, one octave. haha. i'm using garageband, and i'd really love if this keyboard were relatively easy to use. i mean if it's complicated i can surely figure it out, but i don't want to have to spend a lot of time trying to. my budget is around 300$ but can go up to 500. thanks!!

Best bet is to go with an M-Audio controller like this. I picked the one that is $300, but you can get the Axiom with more or less keys too.
