Would more RAM work for my Mac?

Postby keillan10 » Sat Nov 12, 2011 2:34 am

I have a 2009 imac, and i've been thinking about buying some more RAM to speed up general performance. currently i have 2gb (2 separate 1gb sticks) of ddr3 ram, and i've been thinking about getting 2 more ( i have 32 bit windows 7 partition, and i believe it can only handle 4 gb). I've been looking on newegg for some more RAM. I want to get 2 more 1gb sticks, but i cant seem to find that. would any other sets work for me? And what else makes it compatible for my comp other than the fact that it's ddr3?

other specs for my computer:

iMac desktop (not notebook)
Intel core 2 duo @ 2.66 GHz
32 bit operating system for windows partition
X2 1gb sticks ddr3 RAM

Stick to Crucial brand RAM for a mac.

You will want to find out if you're using So_Dimm or 240pin RAM sticks. The iMac is different. Once you pick something, thumb through the newegg user reviews.

Don't let the folks at Apple scare you into buying their stuff.

I don't think that there are 4 spaces available for you to put extra RAM in your iMac, the most you can do is replace the two 1gb sticks with two 2gb sticks
