> How do I exit out of an internet browser on the ipad
Normally you would not. Just press the home key to return to the home screen then pick another app.
If you want to force quit it, press the home key to return to the home screen or switch to another application, then double tap the home key to reveal the task bar, hold down the icon for the browser application until it shakes, then tap the cross at the top corner.

Just the home screen.

> Also, how do I delete an item?
Applications manage their own files. They have their own interfaces for deleting them.
To delete an application, home down its icon on the home screen until it shakes, then touch the cross in the top corner. You cannot delete built in applications (such as Safari and the Calendar), only ones that you installed later.
> you have to force exit?
No. Normally you just switch between applications and let iOS manage closing applications itself. You only force close an app if it gets stuck in an unusable state.
