My iPhone dropped in a pool. HELP!?

My iPhone dropped in a pool. HELP!?

Postby tad » Wed Nov 10, 2010 2:47 am

I dropped it in a pool and took it out about 10 seconds later. Then I let it air dry for about 1 hour, because I wasn't at home. Then I came home and blow dried it. Then I put it in a bowl of uncooked rice and into the sunlight. How long should I keep it there before I turn it on? What else should I do?
Thanks!

You've pretty much done everything. Let it sit in the rice for a few days BEFORE turning it on.

If you try to turn it on while there is any moisture in the phone you will fry the motherboard.

Apple will replace the phone for $199 if you can't get it working again.

I know it sound drastic (if you're like me, you can't live without your phone), but if you really want to reduce the chances of it being permanently ruined, 24-48 hours should be ample time to leave it there. After that, I'd find out about a third-party handset protection plan (I think Asurion has an app that runs the eligibility test automatically, so you're more likely to get approved since it's not checked by a human, but I'm not endorsing them).

Why did you place it on a bowl of uncooked rice?

Try turning it on now and check if it's still working. If not, try bringing it to the Apple store and have it replaced if it's still under warranty.

put it in a ziplock bag of rice, it needs to suck the moisture out of the air. afterwards itll pull it out of the phone. leave it there for 3-7 days WITHOUT a case

I think you've done enough. Have you tried turning it on?

You can exchange it for a new one, if you have a warranty.
