My iPhone keeps on turning off even though it's charged... What's going on?

My iPhone is only about 3 weeks old but it's already acting like the battery is shot. When it gets down to about 40% power, it shuts off without warning and then takes ages to turn back on. It also occasionally displays something like "This phone is not compatible with this charging device", even though it's not plugged in. What's going on? I did get it a little wet in the rain a few days after I got it, but after it dried out it started working perfectly fine and didn't start acting up like this until two days ago. What's happening to my iPhone, and what should I do?
