Esn=electronic serial number when it has a bad esn it means it was either lost stolen or it or the person stopped paying for the phone and it ended up being a bad esn.bad esn doesn't let you activate the phone ... but it's worth buying at a cheap price because you can always unlock phones with a bad esn. And the connecting to any other cell phone provider .

Example.tmobile iPhone4 bad esn sale200$ 50$ more to unlock. Ones unlocked you can activate at a Verizon tmobile or any other company

It means it cannot be activated on its original network. The phone was either reported lost or stolen or the bill wasn't paid. The phone can be used for parts and may be able to be flashed to a carrier like Boost, Metro or Cricket.

It's either it was actually stolen or listed as missing. Also, try to know if your provider is a GSM network or CDMA
