I used to have an iPhone 3g and was frusterated with this problem,so then i upgraded to an iPhone 4 and its still happening, its newly restored,im running ios 5,but when i purchase an app in the app store that says it takes up say 50mb,when i purchase it and go into Settings>General>Usage it says its taking up 100mb.And i even purchase "Gangstar Rio"which was a 700mb game, and when i purchase it and looked in usage,it was taking up over 2gb.Whats the deal?

This is because when you purchase the file, it is in zipped format and when it installs itself it takes a larger space. Same happens with the PC as well.. nothing to worry about

You might have some apps that are using too much space..like i had to delete The Dictionary app to make Angry bird run faster. If you have too many apps using GPS constantly, or when you sync your i-phone you get a message sying 'some apps were not updated 'cuse " .... delete those & it will real up the system space.
