Are wifi and DSL the same thing...like can they both connect on an ipod touch?

No, DSL, is your internet from your ISP. DSL can be pushed through a router, to make it wireless. You need a router to get wifi on your ipod touch.

WiFi connects multiple devices inside a small area (such as a house or building). DSL connects a building or house to an Internet service provider. Typically, you would have a DSL connection to your WiFi router, and then use the WiFi to provide Internet access to devices in your house.

No. DSL is the type of internet that you pay for, like from your internet provider. Wifi is when a wireless router would take your internet(in this case i'm guessing dsl) and put it into wireless signals that your iPod could pick up. So you would need both to have your iPod connected to the internet - the DSL for the internet and the wireless router to turn that internet into 'wifi', or wireless signals.

Wifi and DSL are not the same thing, they are two very different things that work together.


Wi-Fi (pronounced /?wa?fa?/) is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance that manufacturers may use to brand certified products that belong to a class of wireless local area network (WLAN) devices based on the IEEE 802.11 standards, which is by far the most widespread WLAN class today. Because of the close relationship with its underlying standard, the term Wi-Fi is often used as a synonym for IEEE 802.11 technology.[1][2]
The Wi-Fi Alliance, a global association of companies, promotes WLAN technology and certifies products if they conform to certain standards of interoperability. Not every IEEE 802.11-compliant device is submitted for certification to the Wi-Fi Alliance, sometimes because of costs associated with the certification process. The lack of the Wi-Fi logo does not necessarily imply a device is incompatible with Wi-Fi devices.
As of 2010, IEEE 802.11 devices are installed in many personal computers, video game consoles, smartphones, printers, and other peripherals, and virtually all laptop or palm-sized computers.


Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a family of technologies that provides digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network. DSL originally stood for digital subscriber loop. In telecommunications marketing, the term Digital Subscriber Line is widely understood to mean Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), the most commonly installed technical varieties of DSL. DSL service is delivered simultaneously with regular telephone on the same telephone line as it uses a higher frequency band that is separated by filtering.
The data throughput of consumer DSL services typically ranges from 384 KB/s to 20 MB/s in the direction to the customer, depending on DSL technology, line conditions, and service-level implementation. Typically, the data throughput in the reverse direction, i.e. in the direction to the service provider is lower, hence the designation of asymmetric service, but the two are equal for the Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL) service.

to put it simply DSL is a type of internet connection, and wifi is a way to wirelessly connect to a local network. well how are they related you ask? ill tell you. a Local Area Network (LAN) connects several devices together usually for the purpose of file sharing, remote printing, and sharing a single internet connection among multiple computers, so if you have a LAN with a DSL modem connected to it, then the whole LAN had internet access, NOW if your Router doubles as an Access Point (AP) then you can use a wifi enabled device such as an ipod touch, to wireless connect to your LAN thus giving your ipod internet access. i hope my explanation was thorough enough. more info on the subject can be found on wikipedia.
