Good texting apps that DONT need wi-fi?

I'm going on a class trip, and I would like to brin my iPod and text my friends. Is there any text apps that don't need wi-fi?

Nothing can give you a connection besides a wireless router for the ipod. No magic here, sorry.

All texting apps need wifi because they need a way to send the message to other ipods/phones.
