You need an AUX 3.5mm jack to plug the external device into.

Some stock receivers may be marketed as MP3 capable, but are simply able to play CDs with MP3 tracks burned onto them.

Without knowing the trim level of your Sonata, I can't tell you if this is the case here. Common AUX jack locations are the glove box, the center console box, and down low on the center stack, up in front of the shifter in the shadows. You'd also see a button on the stereo itself that allows you to select the AUX input. If you don't have that, you might only have a stereo that can play MP3 tracks burned onto CDs. Your owners manual may be of some help.

If you determine that your vehicle is not equipped with a AUX jack, you can add one by installing this device.
