How do I know if my IPod's battery is defective?

My IPod won't even turn on, but when I plug it in to charge it shows a charge screen and after a few hours I un plug it and it's the same thing again. Can anybody tell me what the problem is, and if it's the battery where can I get it repaired for cheap?

Try holding the center button and menu button at the same time for 10 seconds or so. It will do a hard reset. Hopefully that will do it!

More than likely you have a defective iPod and not a defective battery. But if it was a defective battery ways you would get it repaired for cheap would definitely void the warranty. From my technological experience you have a defective iPod and i would suggest you either take it back for a full refund or another iPod of the same type.
