The apple website says 40,000, but I know ipods never actually have as many gigabytes as they say, and my current 8 gb iPod (actually 7) only holds ~1000 songs when it's supposed to hold 2000.

So do any ipod classic owners know how much they really hold?

if all of your songs were 5mb (somewhere around 3-4 minute songs, decent-good quality.) you can fit 32 763.2 songs

honestly, kids these dais dont even NEED 160 gigs.
all you really need is 2 or 3 imo.

It depends on the length and quality of the songs on your ipod.. if you have all super-high quality, 20 minute long songs, you will be able to fit far fewer songs than someone who has really low quality 3-minute songs.

40,000 is an estimate based on all the songs being of average length which is about 4 minutes.
