How do I use cheats on gpsphone (Pokemon Sapphire) ?

Can someone please explain to me how I should use cheats on my iPod touch with either Gameshark or another code generator?

And also, would it be possible to give a few examples of cheats?

(I only do this for my brother, who really wanted to complete the game and cannot defeat the Elite Four with his level 70s)

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that gpsPhone's cheats can't work, maybe because of erred coding. But I tried, the cheats showed but didn't work, and so I couldn't use cheats in the game. Sorry.
Alternatively, though, you (or he) could purchase VisualBoy Advance and connect his iPod/iPhone to the computer via SSH and play from there. It worked for me.
