I recently got my friend's ipod and I'm trying to update it because it's really old and doesn't have the app store, but i keep getting this error message (see title). What do I do?

I had the same exact problem i feel kind of stupid now that i relized it but thats ok.

1. go to start/control panel/network and internet/internet options/connections tab/LAN settings/check the automatically detect settings box.

2. make sure your connected to the internet

3. go to the itunes store (just click it let it load)

4. click on your ipod click restore let it find its updates and what not and that should work that did it for me


If this doesn't work force your ipod into recovery mode by doing a reset holding power on off key and home key until screen turns black, then to put it into recovery mode hold the home button and plug it in and just wait until the picture of the usb connected to itunes showed up and then repeat steps 1-4
