My Ipod Touch keeps disconnecting when trying to restore?

Ok, I have seen this questioned posted on here before, but I figured I would be a little more detailed and clearer than others on here. Basically, my I pod Touch stopped working a week ago. I figured out it needed to be restored and thus it started working again. The major problem all started when it would not come on again. I hooked it up to the usb cable, it flashed the logo then went into the charging bar mode with the bar at about 5 percent charging (in the red). I was able to get it into the restart mode but it keeps disconnecting and restarting on me during the restoring process. Has this happen to anyone? I have tried changing the usb cords ,updating the firmware for itunes and the ipod, and using different computers, but alas it keeps doing the same thing. Maybe it is time to change the battery or just go buy a Zune? If anyone could get me some resolution on this, would be very helpful, thank you!
