it turns on and "slide to unlock" lights up but its like the screen is frozen. what should i do?

Press and hold the lock and hold button, it will reset it.

First, try holding the lock and home button for 10 seconds. that should fix it.
If that doesn't work, try syncing it to your computer.
worst comes to worst, you might have to restore it.
