No, I was lying. The petite operating system inside will become possibly corrupted. You would have to reset the iPod, there might be a chance that might not work. Also, virus could be placed onto it or your system.

By wrong firmware, you mean what? If you are just downgrading to an earlier firmware, then it will be okay. If you are trying to jailbreak to a firmware that belongs to a different model iPod, it will not work. Just make sure that the firmware you are trying to install was made for the iPod Touch 4g, and all will be well.
