White Macbook's USB ports not working?

Postby floinn63 » Tue May 29, 2012 2:30 pm

The problem started a long time ago and got progressively worse. It started with the usb ports not charging my ipod or iphone while my computer was in sleep mode. Then, more recently, one of my USB ports stopped working completely. Before I was able to go to the apple store, I noticed today that they both just don't work.

I have tried plugging in multiple devices and my computer responds to none of them. None of them charge either, except my old ipod touch.

Anything I can do about it? I'm not under warranty and I really cant afford to replace the computer.
If anyone can shoot me an estimated price on the repair that would be so awesome.

Thanks

Try doing a SMC/PMU Reset, see if that works.

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

If that doesn't work then run a hardware scan, check your USB ports. If it fails the test then you need to replace your USB ports. You cannot replace this component because this is in-built to the logic board of your computer. If the USB ports have failed, replace your logicboard (usually $850-1000 + tax, labor cost) or get a new MacBook Pro.

Good Luck!

I have been struggling with this problem for weeks! After resetting the PRAM and SMC, etc. I finally went to Apple to get the latest MAC OS update - installed it and restarted and voila!!! My USB port is now working again!!
