Install OS X with update disk?

Postby warde » Wed Jan 12, 2011 2:37 am

I unfortunately just trashed my hard-drive in my Mac Pro. I had to wipe it clean but now I need to re-install Mac OS X. I do not want to spend $200 for the install disk. (I want to spend as little as possible) Is it possible to use an upgrade disk to do this. They are available at Best Buy for $50. A much more affordable option. Thanks in advance!

Mac OS install disk come with the purchase of a Mac Pro when purchased from the Apple store. Double check the box assuming you purchased the Mac Pro.

An update disk updates an existing installation. Since there's no existing installation on your hard drive, it won't do anything. You'll just waste $50.
