Go to the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen and select About this Mac. This will tell you your OS.

To access your Operating system version, go to the Apple menu (in the very top left hand corner) and click on About This Mac. Then it will display "Mac OS xx.xx". To tell which one you have it goes as such, 10.4 is Tiger, 10.5 is Leopard, 10.6 is Snow Leopard, and 10.6.6 is the latest operating system that has been released to date. Hope it helps but I would search around Amazon or Ebay before buying an upgrade from Apple because they overprice most things.
