I have no idea what I'd do if faced with that kind of situation, fear of death makes people do all sorts of things, things that cannot be predicted. I don't see what that has to do with anything though, a few people converting under extreme stress is hardly evidence is it? For what it's worth I'd be amazed if in all of history there's never been an atheist who has faced a life threatening situation without becoming religious, I'm sure it does happen but I'm sure it's not always.

He has terminal cancer but continues to go out of his way to advocate an atheistic viewpoint in his appearances & writings despite the advanced state of his disease.
